I've tried several DVD players to convert PAL to play on an NTSC TV. They seem to fall into 2 catagories. The first compress PAL's 576 lines to NTSC 480. Round objects appear oval and people are a little shorter. The second type preserves the aspect ratio, round objects appear round, but I suspect thier cutting off the top and bottom 48 lines in the PAL picture.
Am I guessing wright about this? Are there any DVD players that make a "correct" PAL to NTSC conversion? Wouldn't a correct conversion require re-sizing the pixels?

  4. AFAIK no NTSC TV(non multi-system) will show a PAL DVD/SVCD/VCD perfectly,my Toshiba SD4900 DVD player will play PAL but the video is "squashed" vertically.

My AMW S99 plays the PAL DVD. It works well as any other. The CH-DVD 300 was supposed to do it but I never got to before it broke.
