Ok i just got this from wal-mart and already i'm having issues with it. I have a disc converted with dr.divx and burnt with nero and finalized.
the player will NOT play my divx disc's nor will it play my REAL dvd " harold and kumar goes to white castle" But it will play my burnt dvd's that i used dvd x copy to burn.
what the heck is going on. i'm in the mood to throw this back at wal-mart's face because of all this issues. i just got it right out the box and it wont play. at first i thought it was cold but then it played my burnt ones.
my old dvd players play the real dvd. so i kno that one works but i can't test the divx disc but why wont the real dvd work . something is wrong

Maybe a bit more detail would help. What does it mean it can't play? what's the message from the player. Make sure you don't encode with qpel as the 642 doesn't support qpel.
As for not playing the real DVD, is it a DVD-region thing? have you enabled the 642 all-region? -
the message on the player goes like after i open in the dvd it will say "loading" for a while. not really sure how long aleast 5 secs and then " No disc"
the Qpel was already disable for me in dr. divx i didn't use that.
I dont think that region free should come into afffect but i'll search around for that code. and maybe a filmware upgrade as well.
i still dont understand why it plays only my burnt dvd's and not the real ones. the divx is on another level because it could be the way i burnt them or something but a real dvd should play. i mean c'mon now its a basic function.
oh whats the diffrence between 642/17 and the 642/37 i got the 37 -
Really? I've never encountered any disk the player won't play after I set it to region free. Some DVDs will not play if the DVD Player is set to region free.
As for bowlofturtle, if the player can't even read the disk, maybe there's a problem with the player itself. -
You cant play them on the philips 642 when set to region free,I think most players also.
-
I must admit I don't have many Region 1 disc, but for the ones I have, they worked. I don't think the 642 have problem handling RCE discs. I think most of the newer all-region players handle RCE fine, even my 5 years old Pioneer 525 all-region DVD handled RCE disc no problem. Its called RCE (Region Coding Enhancement)
-
You cant play RCE discs on the 642, I tried does not work when set to region free. Atleast mine wont.
-
how do i kno what discs are RCE. at first i tired it w/o the region hack and then i put in the hack 789 ok 0 and now it still dont play. i think its just a crap player. maybe try another one.

You'll know - your player will display a world map sort of image, just a still image and you can't play the DVD at all. I think you have got a broken player, as it seems the player can't even read your disc. It happened with my 5 yr old Pioneer, near the end of its life, it only reads CDR, it won't read original CD or DVD.Originally Posted by bowlofturtle
Maybe it depends on where you buy the player then, mine is a 642K/75 and it doesn't seem to have problem with RCE. Have you tried the 789 ok 1 trick to set it to region 1 and see if it works?Originally Posted by canadateck -
If I set it to the region of the RCE disc it will play. But wont play if it is set to Region free.

ok, then you can still play all region disc ... just a bit more troubleOriginally Posted by canadateck

Here is a list of DVDs with RCE not sure if its lists all of them.

For Divx files on ISO disks: make sure they are finalized. The player may not like multiple sessions either.
-
I didn't see a world map or anything close to that.
and yes it was on a ISO disk finalized and burnt at like 24x on a 52x burner. I made sure of everything. techincally speaking everythign SHOULD work but it isn't. I'm going to return it morrow and get a 2nd one.
