  1. I have searched the forum but could not really find an anser to my problem. I recently got the Philips DVP642. It plays regular dvds fine and also SVCD's with no problem. However i have tried a few xvid's and that's where i have problems.

The xvid's seem to play fine for awhile and then the audio gets messed up. The audio just starts making a loud sort of whirring sound and any music or dialog cannot be heard anymore. Sorry i can't describe it completly. I tried pausing the movie but it dosen't help. It's random in when it happens. Nothing seems to fix it either.

    Any thoughts, it's really frustrating!

  2. I asume you mean xvid and not xvid or divx. You might try double clicking on the System Menu button on the remote control. This might give better support for xvid files as opposed to divx files.

On some files with mp3 audio I have a popping noise, check with Gspot and they are always VBR mp3 at around an average of 192 kbps I think it's because of VBR cause it would happen when when there is little sound followed suddenly by alot of sound and the bitrate skipes too high

Anyways if the file works OK on your computer just open it in VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod and re-encode the audio 9 I use Lame CBR at 160 or 192 and they have worked great on my player)
