got a few avi files, all xvid and ac3, and can't convert in any version of tmpg, the prog goes through right up to the encoding start, then freezes and reports "Not Responding" in task manager. Tried the files in WinAvi 6.2 and they convert to dvd fine but have black lines all over the screen, popping on and off all the time.
Any ideas ??

If you don't have the AC3 plugin for TMPGEnc, I am led to believe that it struggles with AC3. I'd demux the Ac3 from the AVIs using Virtualdubmod, then use TMPGenc to encode the video portion only, then let your authoring software join them up automatically, or Multiplex them manually.
If in doubt, Google it.
