  1. I try to make a dvd recordable disc that will play mpeg2 video on my Sony S725d (region 2) dvd-player. So far without luck with a TDK+R and Sony+RW disk. The dvd's are created on my pc with DvdIt! LE (provided with Matrox/Adobe Premiere video-editing hardware/software). I burn my dvd's with the Sony drx 500ul external (firewire connected) burner. The recorded disks play however fine on my computer.

In the DVD Players section I read some people having good and bad results with dvd+r(w) and this Sony dvd player. Any tips out there for better results? Do I have to look into dvd-r(w) disks to get better results on the 725 player?

I'm having mixed results with my 725. I've burned a number of DVD disks using DVD shrink and Nero onto ritek -r with some success. However I've found that they will sometimes play, and sometimes not.

I've burned one dvd+r with the same result.

I'm burning with a sony dw d22a unit fitted into a pc.

This player seems to be very inconsistent on playback.

  3. Hi,

Thanx for your reply. my message is from some time ago. In the meantime I was able to get myself into the secret service menu of the 725. There is a re-calibration option inside it. After one evening of twisting the numbers I was able to make all dvd-recordable disks playable, +r and -r. Not rw. But at one point during the hacking, the whole player didn't recognize any cd or dvd disk anymore.

After the succeeded re-calibrating, everything works normal 98% of all disks. I have sometimes problem with playback of certain disks, but I can't tell if that's a result of the re-calibrating or the many hours the 5 year old dvd player has played music and movies.

  4. No problem. I'm new to this site and found it immensely useful so thought it only proper to post where I thought it might help others.

Could I trouble you to give me the details for the re-calibration menu access and hints on where you went wrong and how you got it right.

It might solve my problem (or make it worse...!) I'm frustrated that the discs seem to play fine then every now and again just don't.....aarrghhh!!

If you want to e-mail me rather than post I'm at rhymemaker@rhymesforanytimes.co.uk

    Cheers
