  1. I'm taping all my home videos in 16:9 mode (stretched), which is fine for all the TVs at home (they are all 16:9).

What I want to know is, whether there is any program out there that can imbed the flag so if the DVD player is set to 4:3 Letterbox, it will automatically letterbox my recording so the image don't look stretched.

(basically I want to add a flag to my home-made DVD so it will auto letterbox just like anamorphic widescreen DVDs I buy at the stores)

Most apps now have templtes for capturing, editing and authoring in 16:9. Ulead Video Studio works well enough for the price.

If the software your using doesn't do that you can create the DVD to file on your computer and use ifoedit to add the flag. You'll have to look to left , ifoedit and a tutorial how to use can be found there.

  3. so basically there is a check mark area I should click on the Ulead program? I've tried IFOedit about a year ago and I'm too dumb to work that program.

  4. You can use a editor which will produce you a MPEG file in DVD spec. if you want to add transitions etc or just encode to mpeg. The flag you want is in the MPEG file and most if not all encoders let you set it.

  5. The thing is I'm not doing the MPEG encoding on the PC. I transfer my tapes to a DMR-E55 standalone DVD recorder (it yields much better quality than the PC ones), then I extract the movie only file (using DVD Shrink, to get rid of the Panasonic godawful menu).

From that VIDEO_TS folder I want to just run it through a program to add the 16:9 flag.

Will Ulead does this for me? or is there a simple freeware program I can use?

    Thanks.

  7. Just looked at the tools section to the left and found this link http://shh.sysh.de/
Select ReStream it seems like it will let you edit the mpeg properties without re-encoding.

  8. And typing in mpeg properties gives you another option without me meaning it too

  9. In IFOEdit open up the VIDEO_TS.IFO then click on the lines shown below->make sure 16:9 and auto. Letterbox are checked->save->repeat for every VTS_X_X.IFO file:

If you had a 4:3 film you would use auto. Pan & Scan.

  10. Thank you very much. I'll try that. I shouldn't be THAT stupid and not be able to do what I want after looking at the picture.

Again, thank you very much. I'll let you guys know the result in a week or two.

Yep it's pretty simple capture to a 16:9 and use a 16:9 template to edit and author. I see someone mentioned you could use an encoder to make 16:9 which is true but if you use a authoring tool that doesn't support it such as Pinnacle 8 it's just going to make 4:3.
