I own a JVC Everio HDD Camcorder and have made quite a few recordings of my grandaughter. I also own a 61 inch Tosheba HD DLP. The everio recorded at 720x480 SD. I use Cyberlink Power Director 7 for editing the movies.

When I create the movies(mpeg4) at 720x480 they look mediocre on the bigscreen and are viewable but the wife thinks they can be better. Instead of the TV upscaling the video from 720x480 to 1920x1080 would it be possible to create a movie using Power Director or some other software at 1920x1080 and using a static image to frame the video at 720x480. The end product being a avi/mpeg movie displayed at 1080 with a 720 pictire in picture playing.

Does that make sense to anyone?

Any help on this problem would be apreaciated.

    Thanks

  2. see if the everio can record widescreen instead of 4:3. it will look better on the tv. what format does the cam record to the hdd? mpeg-2 or mpeg-4? and what are you using to play the mpeg-4s on the tv?

the model number of the cam might help.

I figured it out after playing with it last night. The workspace takes the size of whatever the Main item is. So i used a Hi res 1920x1080 image and when i added the video as a pip it was added at its recorded resolution. After encode it looked great on the TV and the wife was satisfied.

    Thanks for taking the time.

Be sure to record at HQ bit rate. That is your main adjustment that affects upscaled picture quality. Also use a tripod and consider lighting.
