I have a DVD a friend made for me from some Xvid TV programs he downloaded, all 6 episodes have the audio playing about half a second early. What would the method of choice be to "re-sync" these vids?

Its easy enough for me to re-sync avi's with virtualdub but i'm not sure whats the best way to go about resyncing a DVD..

Well, assuming that the A/V sync problem is due to the DVD, and not to whatever you are using to play the DVD... (PowerDVD and most stand alone players is what I would trust).

There are a couple of ways: demux the main VOB file to elementary video and audio streams. Then load your favorite DVD authoring app, plonk the elementary streams on the movie timeline, and adjust the start time of the audio until it's in sync.

Alternatively: demux the main VOB file to elementary streams, load the audio stream into Goldwave and insert half a second of silence at the start. Save as a PCM wave, re-encode to MP2 or AC3 (unless there is space on your DVD for the PCM itself), the author to DVD as before.
