  1. I was hoping someone here could help me with the quality of SVCD. I am trying (like others) to achieve the best quality SVCD possible with minimum artifacts/blocking and a smooth picture. I downloaded and tried the 'sample' SVCD (PAL) and was very impressed with the quality. I thought it was way above video.
The test converting AVI (DV) to MPEG2 that i have been doing, with all the different setting on this site, has not achieved this quality. The closest i have come is the normal SVCD setting in TMPGEnc but still a few artifacts with sudden movements.

Does anyone know the prog used for this sample?
Is it just because (i think it is) a DVD rip?

    Help!

  2. Magpie,

Have you tried to use the bitrate calculator to max your quality? If not, go here to download it:

Well, I didn't see the samples but if its a dvd rip, the quality would be better. Even if you capture from DVD and VHS, the quality of the DVD is waaaaaaay better than the capture of VHS. However, I know that there are ways you can improve the quality by filtering. I don't know how. But even with filter, you can't compare the quality of a VHS to a DVD. DVD will always be better. But with filter, the quality could be better than the original. Jordan
