  1. hi,

when I convert a vcd/svcd in tmpgenc I usually use the "fullscreen keep aspect ratio" option so that my movie does not get streatched.

Now tmpgenc usually fills the video with black bars on the top and bottom. Is there anyway to avoid that from happening. I still do not want the movie to get streatched so I do not want to use the "fullscreen" option.

If this is not possible then is it possible to cut the black bars from the top and bottom after conversion is complete.

I have an apex dvd player and I just wanted to be able to use the AFF feature every now and then.

    thanks

    Hello,

Use the appropriate value in "source aspect ratio" and that probably won't happen. "16:9 display" for a widescreen movie and the rest are explained there.

  3. hey kevin,

see I did that... but it still does not help. I guess since my output is an NTSC VCD with 480x480. and since I have a wide screen movie it just fills the rest with black bars so as to give me Letterbox view.

I have tried various combinations. It either streatches the movie to fill the screen or puts the black bars in there. Is there a way to cut the bars after conversion.

    thanks

I re-read your post three times now and i keep getting something different each time.

Do you want to change the display dimensions, the display aspect ratio, or what? Are you making a fullscreen movie out of a widescreen one?

VCD at 480x480? Is it MPEG-1, or MPEG-2?

No Black bars on the on the top or bottom? Does the VCD standard support 16:9?
In TMPGEnc you can set both source Aspect Ratio and Display Aspect Ratio.

Are you Converting to VCD/SVCD or from VCD/SVCD?

I just made a quick VCD using 16:9 and encoded at 352x240 to see what would happen.

My Phillips DVP642 seems to ignore the 16:9 setting and stretches the video to fill the screen.

Windows Media Player 6.4 also plays it incorrectly, only Media Player classic got it right so far.

    PowerDVD 5.0 works as well.

I don't see this project playing correctly in too many stand alone DVD players!

Of course, i'm still not sure what your actual question is.

  6. hey gastorgrab,

really sorry for all the confusion but I think your last post about your experiment with the 16:9 vcd is exactly what I was trying to accomplish.

I tried to do the same thing on my dvd player and I encounter the same problem. I guess VCD's do not work with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

    thanks for the help
