I have recently backed up a few DVD movies and found that I have subtitles displayed in the bottom letter box. I used DVD Shrink and chose only the main movie. Why are these sub titles there? It does not happen on all movies, just a few.

    Hello,

Are those forced subtitles??? They could be there PERMANENTLY. Movies like Hidalgo, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings have subtitles that appear without you choosing them (for only a brief scene).

Is this what you are experiencing??? If not just rerip from the original and deselect all of the subpicture info (the subtitle selection below the audio selection).

These subtitles are through out the movie. I have been leaving the English subtitle checked. I will be unchecking now.

    Thanks!

    wwjd:

Go to the list of titles in your disc image (left pane), and right click on each title. You will get a dialog box asking you which soundtrack and subtitle stream you want to be the default. Setting the subtitle option to Hide Subtitles will stop them from displaying. Be warned, however, that some discs use subtitle streams to display essential content (the PAL DVD of Hidalgo, for instance, has the translations as a separate subtitle stream).
