  1. I just started using TMPGEnc and really like it. I take my mpg files and cut out all the commercials and stuff with the merge and cut feature in the mpeg tools. When it runs it says multiplexing.... Is this reducing the quality or compressing it? Or is it just pasting all the files together?

No compression is used, all it does is merge and cut.

MPEG-VCR is widely regarded as a good MPEG editor.
    If in doubt, Google it.

As jimmalenko says, MPEG-VCR is good. I've downloaded the trial version of VideoReDo and have been impresed so far, give it a try.
