Running XP Home, Athlon 2200, with 1 dvd-rom and 1 Iomega 4216 DVD burner. I have used this system with no problems for over a year, burning and watching dvds with no problem, until now.
The problem is I can play a dvd on the Iomega, but after putting in a another dvd to play, the next dvd is not recognized as a new dvd.
For example, when the second dvd is placed in the drive and I try to play in with WinDVD or Sonic Cineplayer, the menu from the first dvd appears. It's like there's a buffer of the first dvds menu stored someplace and the menu from the dvd actually in the drive is not recognized.
Under windows explorer, usually when a new dvd is placed in the drive, you can see a change in the volume name of the drive, but it doesn't happen now.
The drive properties show the drive is functioning properly. If I don't try to play any dvds before doing burn, burning is ok.
The dvd-rom functions properly, so I tend to believe it's a drive problem and not a windows issue.
I pulled the power connector to the Iomega drive, cycled the power, then reconnected the drive power, rebooted so windows would add the drive again. Same problem.
I guess the next step is to go into settings and remove and add the drive back to the system.
Any other ideas on what else to try?
