  1. I am using the trial version of DVD Movie Factory to author my vcd's. I only use it to author and not to encode or capture the mpeg. I use a background pic and music and about 22 chapters, the mpeg is also standard. It burns properly and everything but when i go to play it in my standalone dvd player (Philips 711) it recognises the disk but then chucks up a garbled screen of crap and refuses to do anything. If I try it in my PC (win98SE) it doesnt recognise it at all. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it. My friend also had this problem with his standalone vcd player (dont know model but a sony).

  2. Is your VCD and your player both set to NTSC or PAL?

  3. 1) when authoring be careful with your video settings (PAL OR NTSC)(movie and menus)
    2) Is the PBC option turned on in your philips 711? (This button is located in the remote control)

  4. The menus and the file were both encoded in PAL and the player was set to play PAL. Also I tried the movie both with PBC on and off.

  5. Did you burn a cdr or cdr/w? If you burned a cdr try a cdr/w.

  6. pacmania_2001,

If it happened on more than one machine, and one of them was a stand-alone VCD player, I would suggest that your disc is corrupted (i.e., not correctly burnt).

It doesn't sound like a PAL/NTSC problem, or any other sort of problem for that matter.

  7. The only time I've had a similar problem (although not identical) is when I burn at too high a speed. I'm using a Pioneer 343, and always burn to CD-RW first as a test for new projects - at 8x-10x I get a lot of green squares and other garbage floating around the screen - but I've never had a disc completely crap out and not even play.

Since it doesn't want to work in your PC either, I'm assuming (as someone else said) the disc, burn or both are corrupted somehow...

  8. A few questions: What OS are you running? I've had problems with Win98 Second Edition. Also, what's PBC?

Also, is this isolated to this one disk, or to all the disks you've burned? If so, switch media, but first I'd try burning it at a slower speed.

  9. DVD Factory has two (2) burn engines. In step 2 of the burn page it says Select CD Recorder. You will see your recorder (hopefully) and the end it will have(Ulead) the default. If you click on the scroll button at the end you should see an (NTI) driver. Give the NTI driver a try and see if it helps. Also turn on burn proof if your burner supports it. I am running Win98 SE, using a Plextor 16/10/40A and have burned a pile of VCDs X(VCD)s, SVCDs and X(SVCD)s at 16x (10x cdr/w) with the DVD MovieFactory with no problem.

  10. Hey,

I am the friend that pacmania_2000 refers too. We both tried Ulead DVD factory and got the same problems. We used different video files and CD-R media etc. I tried using both the burning drivers found in Ulead and still no luck.

We are both running different OS's. I am on XP and he is on Win98SE I think.

Maybe it is just an Australian thing? hehe.
My VCD Player supports everything usually so I dont know what is going wrong. NTSC, NTSCFilm and PAL. It would be really cool to get menus working so keep the solutions coming please.

    Thanks.

  11. Have you tried to play a vcd burned with Nero or EZ CD Creator?

  12. Yeah, I always use Nero for burning my VCDs.
If only there was a way to burn the image Ulead makes with Nero or something, I feel that it might be Ulead burning it wrong or something....? I have an AOpen 8x4x32x, always worked burning with everything else.

    Any other solutions...?

    Nero...

Real (Aussie) menu use VCDImager to make menus.

Someone before mentioned what was "PBC"? This stands for Playback Control.

This basically allows user interactivity to be used on a VCD.

  14. Lamont: What is the NTI driver you refer to? I see it in my dropdown and am just curious as to why this one works better for you?

  15. I just downloaded Ulead DVD Movie Factory and I think I have the same problems with an SVCD that I made.

It locks up on WinDVD 3.0 when I play the movie I made. After burning a couple of coasters, I realized that once I took the music out of the menu, the SVCD plays fine on my computer (I just wish I could select menu options with my mouse on the screen like a normal DVD).

I don't know why, but it only works on my computer if I take the sould file out of the menu. Does anyone know how to fix this, or is it a problem with WinDVD?

    Thanks.
