The Japan 4X DVD-R might be Taiyo Yuden TYG01. A top quality media

Can you run DVDInfo Pro on one and post the media ID here?

Just went to Office Depot. They had about a dozen of the -R 25 packs. About half Taiwan and half Japan. Got two of the Japan. They are indeed Taiyo Yuden TYG01.

I'm not sure. I've always used -R because my burners have been of that flavor. My current one is +/- but I still burn -R because of the long learning curve for media through trial and error.

Maybe someone who uses +R can answer, or try www.nomorecoasters.com

According to that site it might be RICOHJPN (?)

I do know that Japan media is the best, whether "+" or "-"

Picked up 2 packs of the +R today. They only had three available. Should have bought the third, but didn't want to get bitch slapped by my girlfriend for spending money so soon after Christmas.

  10. At my local Office Depot, the 4X +/- R's were all made in Taiwan.

However, they also had the 8X -R for the same price, so I bought the 8X. It actually does not list a country of manufacture on the label as on the 4X.

The "Made in..." should be right above the UPC bar code on the 8x packs.

  13. Great, thanks OP. Got some online, add some paperclips or push pins to get to $50, use:
    Code 23896353 - $10 of $50 exp. 12/31/04

To save yourself ten bucks, thus you get 125 disks for $40.53

  14. Found the country of origin above the upc code for the 8X, made in japan, id MXLRG03. Pretty good at $10 for 25.

All local office depots had all Taiwanese media. They all had that sticky label over the regular label. (regular label said "made in Japan", sticky label said "made in Taiwan")

  26. I got mine the next day, they drove it here from Fremont... allhave made in japan written on the upc code area but for 4x ones. For some reason, they included a box of 4x with the 8x.

Thats okay with me. I can't get more than 2x on my Sony 500's anyway

  27. I just picked up 4 of the dvd-r spindles at the office depot down the street. They are gold topped and are made in japan. Can anyone tell me if these are good ones? Some people were posting that they are TY's.

    Thanks.

    This is good media!
It's 8x speed Maxell's. Supposedly when Maxell can not keep up with the demand the media code will be TY.
