I just created a slideshow in Nero, and then let it save to the HD. Extracted the single VOB (it was a short slideshow), and combined it with my movie in TDA as separate tracks. Then on the menu, one track is for the movie, one for the slideshow.

I'm not as familiar with all the guides here as many others, but I can start you off by saying if you want to use Nero for your slideshow, follow the wizard all the way through to the menu option. Let it use the default menu since you'll strip it out anyway. Continue to the burning step, then select "Write to directory".
At this point, you can select the VOB(s) as input to TDA (authoring program). Once you're at this stage, there are tons of guides on this site to help you continue. I'll see if I can find a link to one for you unless someone else posts one first. -
You could use Slide Show Movie Maker to make the slideshow and then create the menu with GUI for DVD Author.

Hi AeR0,
It seems you can get to the point where you've got your 2 DVD compliant MPEG2 files / VOBs - one for the video, one for the slideshow.
In a DVD authoring program (the one suggested was TDA = TMPGEnc DVD Author), load up each file into it's own track (use "Add DVD video" for the VOBs).
From here, you can create chapters in each track. See here for an explanation to tracks and chapters...
When you put the finished disc in, you'll get the menu you made showing the two tracks - one for the video, and one for the slideshow.
Hope that helps... Good luck. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
