I don't know how to make sense of that, but when I've had trouble with the PixeDV or CaptyDVD crashing I've fixed it by deleting and reinstalling the software.

Reinstalling the software always worked for me in the past. however, now when I reinstall it doesn't seem to get rid of everything. I do a search for all files that contain "capty" ot "pixe" and delete them. However, when I reinstall it still doesn't ask for my serial numbers. there must still be soe files on my computer somewhere. I had great success with this program for a while and now I just can't get it to work right. If someone could give me some ideas of how to get this software completely removed I think that would help. Because when I did a reinstall the first couple times when I started the programs again they would ask for my serial numbers and now they don't.

Thats odd. I've been using the software successfully for what seems like forever, and I too am now experiencing crashes. I havent yet reinstalled the software because I cant find my disc...

Do a search with Visible items set to
    visible and invisible items.
    Search for Captv, pixel.
    Throw everything away.
then do a search for items just modified today,
with visible and invisible items on.
You should find the missing pieces then.

Well I have looked for visible and invisible for anything with Capty and Pixe. But I didn't think of doing a search for anything modified for today. I will give that a try when I get home from work. Good thinkin. Is there a way I can tell where a file came from. In otherwords if I find a file that was modified how do I know for sure it was from the software?

You would check to see where the enclosing folder
is located. If the folder is PREFERENCES, then it would be
a preference file. Most files associated with applications are placed or named within a n enclosing folder that
    points to their location.

Another thing you might try before searching,
launch Captv again, and this will bump up it modified
prefs file to the current date. Will make it easier
    to narrow down your search.

This is the chunk that is crashing. It looks like a problem with their threading. This is a problem in their code, and probably not something that is easily fixed buy just deleting the prefs, etc. I would say you found a bug.

So now what? It did work at first for a while. Now it just crashes all the time. Should I assume right if I am able to remove all evidence of the programs it should work for a while until it crashes again. Do I run a risk by doing this? I don't know the implications of these crashes.

Based on what I know of this product I am sure there will be no fix. I doubt I will get any support from ADS.

Does anybody know how I can use the ADS box to capture in another program?

  10. I would try the usually things. Re-install the software, update the OS permissions and give it a try. If that doesn't work, I don't know of much else you can do if it is crashing. Re-install the OS sometimes fix problems, especially after muliple updates, but that's always hard to do.

maybe re-apply the latest combo OS updater that applies to your OS; 10.2.8 or 10.3.7.

I did a search for files that were invisible and found something. I removed it and reinstalled and it asked for serial numbers again. It worked all last night. So if you are having problems with this software remove all the files visible and invisible.

The captures are good if anybody knew how I could use this box and capture it with a different piece of software I would be grateful.

    Glad you got it Duderino.
That file was most likely the preferences/
dial home/database file, that kept your info
current in case of future patches/updates, etc.,
and if it gets corrupted, then it doesn't
    'initialize' properly at start-up.

I've seen a lot of this on the Mac OS
( 9 and X, mostly MS Office apps are notable)
    in my time.

As for the capturing, does iMovie or FCE work with it?
Or, it that what you are using now...?

I never tried using imovie because I thought imovie only used DV. Would FCE or FCP accept mpeg from my ads box?

I am using PixeDV now which comes with the box. I will try imovie tonight but I really doubt it would work.

Something I have seen mentioned on this site - several times - as a trouble-shooting aide:

A faster way to determine if it is a bug in the software or not is to create a new user and install the software as that new user. If no problems as the new user, then the problem is with preferences or invisibles in the original user's folder. If still crashes as new user - problem (edit) may be a bug in the program.[/b]

PixeDV is the only software that can control the USB Instant DVD for Mac. You need to use PixeDV to capture and you would need to use PixeDV to send video back to tape via the box.

There are two versions of the PixeDV software included in the software bundle. One version encodes to either NTSC or PAL and won't accept Macrovision-encoded video. The other version (buried deep in some folders on the disc) is NTSC only but ignores Macrovision.
