This is a highly-sought utility for any of you programmers out there.

Here's your opportunity to fill a niche market that has a need with no means to achieve it.

I'd do it myself, but my programming knowledge is limited to web-based programming and old-school programming. Don't know diddly about modern software languages.

REQUIREMENT: I'd like to be able to rip two discs to the HD, load the files into a program that creates a new menu (even text-only for all I care) that allow you to select the disc. After selecting the disc, it appears like the original, menus and all. It will truly put two discs onto one with no re-authoring required (new menus, etc).

OPTIONAL: If it is too big for one DVD-R, then either add a shrink feature, or just let us use existing software like DVD2ONE or DVDSHRINK.

Either provide as freeware or sell for reasonable price ($30 or so). Remember not to make it TOO expensive, as this is a niche market. But money can be made (maybe). At least release the required part as a functional beta. Make a commercial one use a shrink method.

There is a technical problem with what you suggest.

A DVD can have a Title Menu (in the Video Manager) and Root Menus within each titleset (VTS).

The VMG menu is normally used for selecting between different presentation (menu) languages.

The typical DVD production contains both types of menus. This leaves no proper way to define another menu, one layer above the others, from where to choose the DVD.

So, I think, that what you suggest is impossible - at least with my level of understanding of DVD Authoring.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. This is asked alot & I do it every week very easily with a dvd recorder. I just record from another dvd player into the panasonic dvd recorder e30 & it makes the menu automatically with chapters, in 4 minutes for me. I use LP mode & its pretty decent.

    Handy -

I think you missed this part :

After selecting the disc, it appears like the original, menus and all.

blast from the past but I couldn't resist replying seeing as DVDRemake PRO does this at last

I don't think there's a great demand yet but maybe when Dual Layer becomes cheaper more people will probably want to join DVD's

I managed to get a hold of DVDRemake PRO (thanks dimad ) and my first test was this two DVDs to 1 feature. Looks good, great even, although the default menu kinda blows, but you can add your own reasonably easily.

IIRC there are many discs that can't be joined this way though ? Is that because of the limitations of the DVD structure that SaSi alluded to ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
