  1. Has anybody had an experience using a Serial ATA to IDE Adapter with their Pioneer DVR-108? Will it work, will I lose or gain performance or is it not recommended. The one I would like to purchase is at http://www.pcimicro.com/.sc/ms/dd/1103465331339601/976662/nc/ee/2504/1755768

    Thanks.

What's the situation? For what that converter cost you can get an IDE controller card and just tap it into that.

It should work, as long as it can use PIO mode (PC33 or PC66) that slower devices such as DVD/CD drives use. For the price, I would give it a try.

  4. Another thing to consider, (i'm not sure how important it is), about such converters is that they may block the cooling vents at the back of your drive.

  6. I just plugged mine into an IDE port. I think it's even a slave device. I wouldn't have thought there is any performance improvement to be had by using a SATA port for this device as it's max transfer speed is 66.6mb/s.

  7. Thanks for all your replies. My problem is I am out of IDE channels. I am adding a Pioneer to my system with 2 IDE Hard Drives and 1 IDE DVD reader and 1 IDE Sony DVD Burner. I also have 1 SATA Hard Drive. I decided to move my Sony DVD Burner to SATA with the converter and put the Pioneer in its place on IDE. Hopefully it won't block the Sony's vent.

    Thanks.

YOu could also buy a separate PCI card that'd give you extra IDE channels. They're cheap
