  1. I recorded a movie from satellite into mpg video and recorded way beyond the end of the movie.

I've done this before, but can't remember. How can I go in and cut out just the movie. I know it's simple and you don't have to re-encode it when doing this...just can't remember how

  6. Thanks that worked!

Now another question...what is the best way to cut out commercials from video recorded from the tv? Seems like the guide you sent me to is for cutting out chunks of video I would want to keep.

    Thanks!

You use the same procedure. Just keep cutting out everything you want to keep, leaving the commercials behind. This usually is the best way, as your video doesn't get re-encoded with TMPGEnc Plus.

So, doing it this way will leave me with several mpg files...correct? Then just merge all those into one?

Not exactly. For Instance, say there are three commercial breaks in your video. You would add your source video to the TMPGEnc Plus Merge & Cut tool four times. 1, for the beginning to the first commercial break. 2, for the first commercial break to the second. 3, for the second break to the third break. 4, for the third break to the end of the video. All these segments you would save to one file.

This is where you're loosing me. I thought when I selected 1 area to cut I then had to hit the run button and cut it. Can I select 3 different areas to cut before cutting?

Sorry, but I'm just not clear on how to do it.

  12. I think I understand now. I will try it and see.

    Many thanks!

  13. Hmmmmm! Think it's going to require some practice. I tried it and still had part of the commercials in there. I played right up to each break and then did the set point, but tmpgenc must not play by those set points exactly

If you know how to use AviSynth and frameservice from Virtual Dub to TMPGEnc Plus, your editing could get more precise.

Look at the guides in the Tools section at left. I studied it once when I looking for something to do, and picked up the basics quickly. Give it a try.
