  1. i have had my pacific 1002 for almost 2 years, in the past i have mainly played VCD / SVCD's and had no problems.

When i played orginal DVD's i got a very loud rattle noise that i solved by putting the instruction manual under the unit to cushion it.

I just bought an LG DVD writer and some datawrite white top DVD-r disks but i have been experiencing jerky playback where every minute or two the picture freezes but the sound carries on, it seems to happen most when the camera changes view quickly like during conversations or action scenes.

I am converting with TMPG Enc, authoring with TMPG author and burning with Nero Rom or the burning tool in TMPG author. I am burning at 4X.

I put one of the problem disks into my PS2 (which i didnt think played DVD R) and it seemed fine.

It looks like i might be in the market for a new player unless anyone spots anything else that i have done wrong above?

  2. as far as the pacific 1002 rattling noises, its a balance problem, and its been going on for years,as long as they have been sold.cheap drive, and mechanism is the problem.you can fix it by opening it up and packing the struts for the drive with little bits of foam, but its too much bother, take it back to asda, and swap it for another brand they sell.
and the media skipping is just that, cheap crap media.datawrite white tops are shit to say the least,a really good disc just now is the datawrite grey topped x8speed,with either a fuji03 dye or prodiscF01.
i havent had a problem with them for over 300 burns now,and playback is fine.they cost about £5.50 for 25 from usual stockists, like blankdiscshop.co.uk

  4. yep.those are the ones, datawrite grey topped x8speed dvd-r,but dont get them from there.
go to www.blankdiscshop.co.uk as there only about £5 from them, saving a few quid that way.
the yellow and orange ones are shit ,to be honest, the grey ones are the only decent ones ive tested, theres red, yellow and orange(and ive done a lot of the greys).
    hope this helps.
