I was checking out the philips trouble shooting page for the philips 642 which i hope to get later on this month. I know of programs like gspot to check how the divx file was encoded but the philips help section mentions NOTE: The player does not support GMC and Q-pel. It only supports DivX 4.x and DivX 5.x files recorded in 'Home theater' mode.
So how can you tell if it was encoded in Home Theater mode?

According to DivX 5.1.1 Home Theater Quality is:

 Recommended max resolution: 720 x 480 @ 30 fps, 720 x 576 @ 25 fps
Maximum MB per second : 40500
 Maximum average bitrate : 4000kbps
 B Frames : Allowed
 Interlace : Allowed

 Audio Must Be MP3 format

Too bad DivX doesn't tell us what the MINIMUM resolutions are to play on DivX DVD players.

I am trying to burn a movie with 4,278,230KB and as a result I have lost 4 rewritables with this new dual layer 16x writer. It starts to burn and then it fails afte about 80% I was just wondering could that be the root of my problem will I have to DVD shrink it. The error message has also been Medium error.

Sometimes I use my dvd recorder to format the disc in DVD Video mode, should that matter at all? The discs I am using are DVD-RW/R.
