  1. This has been driving me crazy for some time now: every time I try to burn a DVD-R, whether I use Nero of DVDIt, they get to the start of the actual burning process and stop, saying that the Memorex 4x DVD-R I have inserted in my NEC 2500 (upgraded to hacked 1.07, WinXP, new Dell, etc.) is a CD-R and that I need to insert a DVD-R.

I had this same problem with Win98 and a Pioneer A105, so I upgraded to this new equipment. Nero even says the DVD-R is a DVD-R before it trys to burn the image. And DVDInfo says no media is inserted.

    Same problem with no-name DVD-R.

    Any clues? I feel clueless

  2. Two thoughts.

Have you ever tried it without that hacked firmware?

Dell? Support? Patience needed there. Don't mention hacked firmware - voided warranty... especially Dell they only support as sold.

  3. Yes, I tried it with the stock Ver. 1.7 firmware that was installed on the NEC 2500A first. I added the burner to the Dell box, so I;m not sure they're going to be much help.

    It is no big deal.

My computer says blank dvd's are cd's from time to time but I know better.

  5. How do you get by that in the burning software?
