  1. I have a Memorex 16x-ddl-in DVD Dual Layer burner. I am using Nero 7 Ultra. I just bought some Matrix 2.4X DVD+R DLs to try on it. Nero says there is no disk in the drive (there is). Is there something I need to change on my software, hardware?

Verbatim is regarded as the only reliable DL media, but maybe a firmware update for your burner can cure your problem.

    1) Use ONLY Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. If you deviate from this at all (different brand or DVD-R DL discs) you are asking for problems.
    2) I'd strongly advise using ImgBurn to burn DVD+R DL discs. It works a lot more reliably than Nero.
    3) I don't recommend this at all, but if you must use Nero, you might try to install the latest upgrade. That sometimes fixes this kind of problem. But that still doesn't address the fact that your Matrix discs are crap and we don't advise using them.

  5. OK, I only bought them cause that's all I could afford, they are ridiculously expensive. I researched them (not here) before I bought them and found favorable reviews. But even if they are crap, I don't see why nero would not even see them in my drive...

I DL Imageburn and it does see my disc in the drive. No I gotta figure out how to use it. I don't want it for ripping, I need to be able to write my VIDEO_TS after I create it (so I can start making some coasters!).

Simple. Use "Build" mode, and set "Output" to "Device". Select your VIDEO_TS folder and burn.

ImgBurn will probably ask about Layer Breaks - info and a Guide here:

[Edit: Also, with those discs, I'd *definitely* run a "Verify" after the burn - just check the "Verify" box as shown at the end of the Guide.]

    Happy burning.

  7. Thanks. I got the problem with Nero not seeing the disc resolved...It was an I?O error, which cleared up upon rebooting. Had that before, but I can never remember when it happens.

So far, burned 4 movies with no problems, just takes a lot longer for two sides at 2.4 speed.

I get the same No Disc error with a Memorex 16X DL Writer using Memorex DL discs OR Verbatim (+ Nero 7) so I think it's the writer that's a dud.
After trying to burn a DL disc it won't even recognise a DVD-RW with data on it (my other drive has no problems with the DVD-RW). The only thing that it sees are CD's.

If it only sees CDs, the DVD laser is dead.

Yup, it's probably the MEMOREX DVD BURNER that is the dud!
Rule of thumb with DL burning is to only use VERBATIM which has already been mentioned.
