For some reason, my drive only works at top ripping speed the first time after a flash. I'll flash the updated firmware, and then rip a DVD. It'll rip at a high speed. Then, I'll try and rip another DVD but the rip speed drops to like 4.0
Any idea why it keeps changing like that? It's almost like it doesn't stay flashed.

The nec 3500 does not rip very fast. Best bet is to get a Aopen 1648/AAP dvd drive to rip. Make sure your buffer is 512. I got this drive (HAVE THE NEC TO BURN) and riped at 12x then burn at 12x for a single layer it takes about 17 mins for everything.
