I realize that I am new to posting, however I have been a "lurker" (if that is a word) for a couple of years. This site and you guys have gotten me out of many a jam over the years just by reading and searching the forums. Anyway...I was wondering now that Christmas is over, and the probability is high that many many DVD recorders and/or burners were on many peoples lists this year, how many folks have registered in the past day or so and are waiting their customary period prior to posting. Maybe a mod can help out with this one as they can see all and know all...well...maybe not the KNOW ALL part!![]()
Edit: I was just thinking. Maybe the number would be low as folks are probably haven't figured out yet that they are having problems.

I don't know the stats but I would guess that the number is rising. I have seen a few "how do you hook up post" and I am guessing when all the burners and new PCs start to get put to the test, more questions will pop up. This site can be hell for the impateicent(sp) and I find it hard to beleive that anyone will like waiting for an answer in this day and age.
I only know two people in the real world that do video on a PC. I have never spoken of this site to anyone (if you don't do it who would even begin to understand)(not that I do) But In the last few weeks I have heard salesmen tell custermers about this site by name. Once at a Best Buy in Indiana over thanksgiving, and in two different Comp USAs in Atlanta. I doubt that I hit any computer stores more than six or seven times in a year. And the last three times I heard mention of this site. What are the odds? Hell, I think that it is some kind of plot, Yea...an evil plot at that. I bet the men who killed Kennedy are behind it. I got to go I think someone is watching me.
I don't mind the noob questions, and so far It looks like everone is being pretty tame about them. I think that I lurked through at least two name changes before I signed on. DVD burners were like a thousand bucks and I heard that you could put movies on a CD and wanted to learn how when I found this place.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

Now if you want the whole MONTH then click the stats link and goto the bottom.

That shows we technially are DOWN for signups, but the month isn't over yet so... -
Thanks. I thought it would be an interesting statistic. Wasn't sure if it was possible to nail a figure down. Sufice to say that there will be a lot of new people on board within the next few weeks.

I found this site in December 2001 through a google search. My brother-in-law got my an Apex 1500 DVD player for that Christmas and I wanted to read user's comments on the player. This site was called vcdeasy.com then.
Back in January of 2001 when our son was born, I got a DV video camera and Pinnacle Studio 1 and had been doing some very basic video work. I had made some home movies outputted to VHS tape. I started reading other posts and got interested in more advance video editing and such. I joined this site in Feb 2002. At first it was very daunting ... but like everthing else ... if you read and stay at it you'll learn. After getting my first DVD writer in December 2002 there was no looking back. In these past 3-years, I feel that I've advance from a novice to advance ... I'm still well below the experts here ...
For me this site is fun because I continue to learn and it's a great place to exchange ideas and troubleshoot problems. It takes a while but if you stay at it you'll be able to amaze your family and friends by what you can do and how much you "know" about video editing and computers. -

Cool link for a lowly wanna be like me.
As for putting a movie on CD. I have read and tried everything and come to the conclusion that this is a cleaver hoax from the makers of CDs in an attempt to get me to buy cases and cases of their media. They know that weak minded people like myself will keep trying to do it and keep buying their product until they drop dead from exaustion
The only way that I have been able to fit a two hour VCR tape on to a CD is to lay the CD flat on a shelf and stand the tape on edge on the CDIS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I bet things are gunna get lively here in a couple days. Who will be the first to lose his patience?
Any guesses?

There's always a rise in "how to" posts around christmas.
and you know they are new members and non-lurkers...otherwise they would RTFM. -

Around the holiday season, when more and more people join the DVD burner ownership society, they know what a DVD is, they know what a DVD burner does...but when they find out that they don't work or the process is not as simple as a CD burner, they will be here asking "How to I copy a DVD" "How do I copy XBox games" "How much will fit on a blank DVD" etc, etc.
They just have the money to buy the technology but have no concept of how to use it and many will be upset and frustrated when making a DVD is more complicated and has a greater learning curve than does downloading and burning music CDs. -
I'll bet most of the mods are currently oiling up their yellow and red buttons, and doing index finger exercises to better click that warning button

I can't wait to see how many threads get locked too
