  1. From your experience and expertise on GOP, what do is best for encoding 352x480 mpeg2 23.97 movie clips (from a widescreen movie source)?

    Also, what is a your GOP structure preference for making VCDs?

    Is 1, 5, 2 the standard for everything at 29.97?

  2. Actually, I always rely on the default unless I have a specific reason to do otherwise. 1,4,2 is the default GOP structure for Panasonic and CinemaCraft encoders at 29.97fps, and 1,3,2 is a length adjustment for 23.97fps.

    Of course, the default GOP varies from encoder to encoder. TMPGenc uses 1,5,2 while Ligos GOmotion (ATI real time capture codec) uses 1,3,2. I rarely use these encoders, but I trust the default GOP to be optimal in either case.
