  1. Hi people,
I've been using the videohelp tutorials and forums for about a year now. And i've never felt the need to post because everthing I wanted/needed to know was readily available somewhere on the site/forum.

I'll try to make this as short and sweet as possible. Thank you in advance.

I use TMPGenc plus to convert my video content to Vcd and Svcd. Most of my knowledge comes from the excellent guides on this site. Although i've read guides on here concerning Interlacing/Deinterlacing. I only really half understand it - The same goes for Inverse Telecine & 3:2 Pulldown.

TMPGenc has options to define wether or not the source video is Interlaced or Deinterlaced. Based on my Decision (I think) I then have to choose field order. Can someone please elaborate or perhaps point me to a Guide On how i can determine wether or not the Source im converting from is Interlaced or Deinterlaced??

The same goes for Inverse Telecine & 3:2 Pulldown. When i use the TMPGenc wizard - It sometimes Ticks the Inverse Telecine Filter on some video sources. Yet if i load the same source Manually (Without the wizard) The option is Ticked. So I guess Im asking if there is a Technique Used to determine If the Inverse telecine proccess Is required in any given Video source??

The reason I want to know Is because the Inverse Telecine Proccess can take hours. If this step isnt needed, It would save alot of time. Also, I feel that in this stage of my Video Converting/Editing Hobby, I should know these things - So its a quest for knowledge/convenience

Thanks to all who help and if this is in the wrong Forum section, Forgive me and Plz tell me how to get it in to the correct section.

  2. Quoting myself :
"Yet if i load the same source Manually (Without the wizard) The option is Ticked." I Meant to say :
Yet if i load the same source Manually (Without the wizard) The option is NOT Ticked.

    Sorry.

GSPOT v2.51 or higher detects I/L (interlace) or PRPG (progressive) and tells you TFF (top field first) or BFF (bottom field first) or pulldown (3:2).

IVTC is converting 29.97 back to it's 23.976 roots. This only works if the source cooperates and was originally film at some point in time. The 23.976 is progressive only, so deinterlacing will occur on interlace materials. Overall, a bad idea here, leave it 29.97 and interlaced. The best IVTC is for progressive sources.

This is about as simple an explanation as possible for interlace and deinterlacing:
