I know that there are no late fees with the unlimited plans, but here's something very interesting for those who just occasionally rent.

I still WILL NOT rent from them.
I've heard a few times that they're having financial troubles.
They made their bed, now they can lie in it.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Wow unlimited plans and no latefees? wait... their local selection always blows, nevermind.
LS: ditto -
I got the unlimited plan (2 out). I like 'em... so there.
hehe -
I had the moviepass for awhile until I lost my bank account.(Previous employer responsible)
I liked it. I had the 3 out plan. -
I should also mention every blockbuster I've been to has Full SCreen over widescreen. YICK!

When I asked the guy at my Blockbuster if they would ever get more widescreen than fullscreen, his answer was that alot of people who rent from them don't have widescreen tvs and are therefore unable to use widescreen dvds.
I thought that there late return deterrent was interesting... give 'em a week... if they don't return it... charge 'em for the entire purchase price.
This brings up another question... how much will they charge to buy these things? Will it be the normal price or full on MSRP? -

Hello,
What's up with you guys??? I can get any movie widescreen at my blockbuster.
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
the one around me i use has both WS and FS and the WS are rented first .... looks to be about 3:1 ratio WS over FS ..
canada blockbuster may be a lot different than usa blockbuster ... for one thing they carry here some fairly hardcore movies ... in the foreign section usually but elsewhere also .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
The funny part is if I rent locally I like to rent from Movie Trading company. Which these days is OWNED by Ballbuster. Funny how they both have the same owners but are drasticly different stores.
-
I'm not really understanding the concept here. There's still a due date of 2 days on movies, but there's a week grace period? So essentially, the due date on the movies is 6 days without penalty? What is the point of the 2 day thing at all?

My blockbuster has a good selection, and really never has full screen DVDs anymore (all widescreen)
Plus, the manager and I talk all the time, so she always reserves the new releases form me -
[sarc]Widescreen? Who wants that, it's got those black bars, so you're not getting the whole movie. Fullscreen is much better.[/sarc]
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
Not all movies are shot in Widescreen.
I've experienced situations where I've seen somone complaining that their DVDs of Citizen Kane and The Wizard Of Oz weren't the widescreen versions
Duh...that's 'cause there is no widescreen version
And...try explaning to your mother/girlfriend/spouse during her favorite chick flick that those annoying black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are there so she can see the whole tree in the background over to the left and the whole pickup truck over to the right - I don't think that'll win her over :P
There are just some things that really don't need to be in widescreen.
Widescreen is perfect for Art films, Action, Sci-fi and anything with a lot of
ambience / particular atmosphere or cinematography to help create a mood or feel for the scene(s) and add depth for more experience - not all films have that though...and not all people experience movies on the same size/type of screen...so they're not gonna feel or get that effect if their setup sucks or isn't designed for it.
Don't know 'bout all the Blockbuster stores, but their online rental service allows you to chose WS or Full Screen (if the movie is available in both formats)
A lot of movies are double sided discs with WS on one side and Full on the other - not really a problem as I see it. -
I hate the fact that when my local video store gets movies they only get Full Screen if there's a separate FS version. If it comes in a dual format or it only comes in WS they get that; otherwise you're stuck with FS.
P.S. - WTF did people do with WS DVDs before WS TVs were around?Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
I just came back from a blockbuster meeting about late fees. Here's how it's gonna happen starting Jan 1:
You still have 2 options: overnight or for a week. Depending on when you pick, you have 7 days to return the movie in addition to your existing rental day that you paid for. After that grace period, you get charged the selling price of the movie. For example, let's say you rented I, Robot tonight. Technically it's due back tomorrow by midnight, but if you wanted to keep it for a few extra days, no problem. If you keep it for longer than a week, you get chared 21.99 + tax(minus the amount you paid to rent) and you can keep the movie. You have 30 days to return the movie for a full refund. After that, you can keep it. Also, you can no longer pay that balance the next visit...it has to be taken care of that visit or you cant rent.
There's some junk about restocking that I didnt understand, but that's the basics of it. -
I haven't been back to Blockbuster since I started with Netflix over a year ago. They have been superb and I will continue to support them regardless of ho many "johnny come latelys" spring up. (Wal-Mart, BBuster)
-
I heard if you return it after the grace period you get charged a restocking fee and only get credit not money back.
I'll never go back to Blockbuster. I've been screwed by them a couple of times. I drop off a movie and they tell me I didn't bring it back until the following evening. There's no way to argue against that!
The local one is a joke. Fullscreen and their foreign section... Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
I'll rent them from whoever has got them. Netflix, Blockbuster, West Coast, Showtime, Hollywood, don't care. It's all the same shit, just a different sign on the door.
"There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -
Hollywood, 9.95 a month trial for 3 months, 14.95 after that, 3 at a time, 5 days at a time, 2 miles from home, on the way to and from work..
Take 3, bring 'em back 3 times a day as far as they are concerned, get 3 more.
Penalty is bring 'em back after deadline, charged 3.99 per, 12 bucks plus tax. Did that a couple times, still ahead of the game, never watched so many movies, being off work for a while.
My Hollywood has many more WS than FS. Like FS myself. I think the director tells the camera just where he wants it pointed, so, as above, "Oh, look at the pickup truck wayyyy off to the left and the tree wayyyy off to the right, where nothing is happening."
Cheers,
George -
