  1. hello
i have a few video files with their name as filename.vcd . are these really vcd files (.dat) ?
i have tried playin them using "media player classic" (i have all codecs installed from the latest k-lite mega codec pack) and it gives an error "cannot render the file"
so i tried playin them in VLC and they played perfectly. however it seems that there are 2 different video files inside 1 file. i say so because while playing, a new scene started with a totally different resolution from that of the previous scene. VLC automatically adjusted the resolution.
i would like to convert these files to mpeg format or any other common video format. please help me. any info about .vcd files will be useful.

if this has been already answered please give me a link to the post. i tried searching for ".vcd files" but all it gave was converting to vcd files or burning vcd files.

You couldn't find anything because there's no such thing - and any other posts mentioning that extension will most likely be in a place we call the Closed Topics forum

You need to extract the video/audio part out of the DAT file - you can use ISOBuster or VCDGear to do this.
    If in doubt, Google it.

What does AVIcodec or Gspot say about them? Someone may have appended .vcd onto the name of the file, but they still may be .mpg filetypes.

  6. isobuster worked!!!
on loadin up the .vcd file in it, it showed the folders of a normal video-cd (CDI, EXT, MPEGAV, etc). so im guessin those .vcd files were an output of a cd imaging software. i went into the MPEGAV folder of the image and easily extracted the avseq0*.dat files without much fuss.

a new scene started with a totally different resolution from that of the previous scene
this was because more than 1 files were in the image. VLC was playin all of them as a single file.

BTW g-spot gave the error message: "cannot playback the file. format is not supported" so they werent .mpeg filetypes which figures since media player classic wasnt able to play them

thx alot for all ur help guys and the quick reply. ur doin a terrific job. ill be ever grateful.
