  1. I searched and could not find an answer to this question. I made some DVDs from home videos using a DVD Recorder. The problem is the recorder only records audio in Dolby sound and my Ulead Video Studio 8 does not recognize Dolby. Is there software that can change the sound in my video from Dolby to some other? Or would it be better to change the video files (including audio) to another format, like AVI or MPG? If so, how would I do that?

BTW - DVDShrink gives an error message when loading. Something about the audio not being supported. Also, I tried VirDub-MPEG2 and it gives an error when trying to convert, "no audio codec found".

Can anyone make sense out of all this?

You might need to demux the VOBs (VOBEdit is a freeware app that can) and use besweet or HeadAC3He or another program to convert to a different format.

You might also need to install an AC3 codec - AC3Filter is a popular choice.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. I tried to use vobedit, but maybe I did not use it correctly. I have three vob files:video_ts.vob, vts_01_0.vob, & vts_01_1.vob. I opened (in vobedit) each one (separately) and chose to demux. I then selected the AC3 option, but it gives me a zero-sized AC3 file. What am I doing wrong?

VIDEO_TS.VOB & VTS_01_0.VOB are the menu VOBs, so there's not much point demuxing them

Tick the boxes within those red squares, and it'll do everything for you automatically.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Thanks for the help. For future reference, here is what I did that worked for me:

    Added the AC3 filter
Used VOBEdit to demux the audio. I got an AC3 file
Used VOBEdit to demux the video. I got an M2V file
Used Goldwave to convert the AC3 file to WAV file. No other program worked for me.
Loaded the M2V file and WAV file into Ulead Video Studio 8 to edit and add menus.
Saved the finished UVS8 to disk.
