hi, and thanks in advance to Videohelp... I have searched this topic a lot and cannot find the answer!
so here goes:
If I use a DVD recorder (eg Pioneer DVR-550H) to record audio only from my amplifiers "tape out", will this work?
ie can I use it like a CD recorder, but obviously recording onto DVD blanks......
many thanks if you could help me with this!
cheers
John

Welcome to the forums. This is a good question. Weekends are slow times for us so the best I can do is give you a partial answer. You may need to bump this thread on Monday to get a better answer from others who may not read your post over the weekend.
I don't own a DVD recorder so I've never tried this, but I suppose it would work unless the recorder refuses to record if it can't detect a video signal. However, I want to point out that since DVD recorders don't record "audio only" as far I know that even if you use the lowest video quality setting available, most of the disc will be wasted recording an empty video signal.
What is your reason for doing this? If you just want to make a DVD with AC3 audio that has a lot of music on it, maybe this program is what you are really looking for:

I've never used it so I have no personal experience to share. -
I suppose I should say that when I started my reply, I could not remember the name of Audio DVD Creator. It was only after I wrote the first 2 paragraphs that I remembered it, so my answer may actually be good enough for you and not really a "partial answer" as it would have been without the 3rd paragraph. However, if you need more info my caution on weekends being slow times around here still applies.

Just a side note here - since you refer to tape out from the amp I assume you mean the left right rca audio out. That will only be stereo and you won't have any digital surround sound with the capture if the dvd recorder allows it without a video signal present.
HOWEVER you may possibly be able to retain any embedded dolby pro logic information in the stereo signal. I don't know how that works when capturing if any of the dolby surround analog portion survives the transfer or not.Donatello - The Shredder? My ageing Liteon LVW-5006b DVD recorders will record just audio if you record onto a CD in the machine. If you record audio onto a DVD then both video and audio will be recorded (if no video source is connected then you'll just get blank video recorded). It's then simple enough to rip the DVD to PC, demux the audio and video to separate files (many programs will do this including DGIndex). Once you've got an audio file you can pretty much do whatever you like with it.
I don't know if some DVD recorders give you the option of just recording audio onto a DVD but mine certainly don't.
