I'm thinking of getting a Data-Video TBC-1000. I did a google search and came across this interesting comment: 'I use a Datavideo TBC1000. Once I got it, I could capture video while fast forwarding the tape, and not lose a single frame'.
Is that for real? That feature could be really useful.

Yes. But don't think this is a way to capture faster than realtime. It just does not anger the capture device to drop frames while using fast forward. Mainly a nifty feature for realtime effects (fast motion, slow motion), but you could do just as well with an NLE.
