    Hi

I’m editing a trailer out of 2 hour’s movie. I have a poor hardware system so I need to cut first small clips and than import them to my editing program.

So I need a software that can cut clips out of an mpeg/vob/avi movie by a batch script.

    Thanks
    S

Would it be possible to fill in your computer details ? It helps when giving recommendations

What editing program are you using ?

When you say you're editing a trailer out, I take it you mean you've got footage that is the trailer and the movie, and you want to get rid of the trailer ?

What's the source ? (DVD, AVI, MPEG file) ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

no....the other way around. i have 2 hours movie,i want to create a trailer out of this movie.

I own Combustion 3 ,I’m not an experienced user especially when it comes to dealing with finding the tune between fast performance and hardware constraints.

    My workflow:

I’m upto a trailer creation of 1:30 minute. I import 17 video clips with the following setting :

    Files information:

Format of all files : mpeg (Video For Windows(24bit)(
Frame Size of all files: 352x240
    Frame Rate: 29.97

The shorter file is: 6 second.
The longest file is: 2 minutes.

    System Hardware:
    Win Xp Pro
    512 DDR
    ATI Radeon 9200
    dual displays setup.

    Combustion settings:
    Use Software OpenGL is disables.
    2d Workspace.
    Display quality : preview
    Footage resolution: Full.

    Experience:

The viewport shows the movie slows until it cache it. the cache meter can handle the process, the 445M limitation never hardly reached. of course after completely playback the viewport shows real-time play.

    Trail :
I tried to use the openGL but it didn’t help to make the rendering faster. also I tried to set workspace > Composite > Object Details to Current but it didn’t make the rendering faster like I could expect.

Now as inexperienced user I have few question to ask that might help me understand how I can speed up my work :

    1. what are the footage setting/format/codec I should used and why?
    2. is it a batter idea to cut the movie to short clips out of combustion and than import them into combustion like I did, or its batter to import the whole mpg movie (70minutes,600Mb) and instance it along the layers?
    3. What for combustion offers me to make a proxy if It also offers me to decrease footage resolution?
    4. is there any advantages of using sequenced images footage as the proxy of the original mpg one? if no what is the use of sequence regarding to performance?
    5. what are the tricks to make a good proxy for my clip?

    Thanks in advance,
    Your insights are highly appreciated.

Well, I've just had a look at that software and IMO, it's got far too many bells and whistles for what you're trying to achieve here, and it also sounds like it's got far too many for the machine you're using, too.

Do you just want to use snippets of the movie spliced together one after the other, or do you need to integrate transitions, overlays, etc etc also ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yap…im up an high-end trailer which include transaction and all other effects. combustion offers pretty good flexibility for constraint system as mine. I believe that I can do what im looking for but on the expens of extra work time.
