Using Tmpg Plus 2.5 to open WMV files made with Win Movie Maker 2.1
These are JPG's made into a slideshow

Works fine with the standard profiles that come with MM 2.1 (i.e High Quality NTSC)
But when I use the profile editor to make a profile that saves the video uncompressed in WMV format, Tmpg says it can't open it.
The file plays fine in Media Player.

The 'Direct Show reader' is already the top priority in the env setting in TmpgEnc.

Any ideas why it can't open these files?

If you plan on importing them into TMPGEnc, save your Windows Movie Maker projects as DV-AVI.

I did that , but when I played the file thru Media Player to check it out, it was noticably fuzzier than a WMV file.

I then put a WMV file and a DV-AVI file thru TmpG at the same settings and the DV-AVI was was still fuzzy.

Is there any way that there's something about the way DV-AVI stores it's info that doesn't display right on a PC but does on a TV?
I was hoping to make a DVD slideshow that could be displayed on either a PC or a TV

In WMP, select Tools, Options, Performance, Advanced, and slide the control for Digital Video all the way to the right, to Large.

DV would be interlaced and WMV (which is always compressed - not uncopmpressed) is ussually progressive , so yes, on your pc DV would not look as good, but on a tv DV would look better....

Thanks for that info, but concerning 'uncompressed' - I used Windows Media profile editor to create my own profile to save in Win Movie Maker.
Under 'video codecs' it lists 'Windows Media Video 9' , a few others, and
    'Full Frames (uncompressed)'

I made a profile using the full frames uncompressed (I also select NTSC and 'allow non square pixel output') It results in a bit rate that's listed as 124.65 Mbps. The output file is tagged .wmv
Tmpg wouldn't open it; I tried renaming it to .asf & even .avi to no avail.

Well, I made a DVD from the DV-AVI output, as well as one from the WMV output, and the DV-AVI one played as fuzzy on the TV as it did on the PC. The one from the WMV file played much better on the TV.
