A few members in another thread thought it might be interesting to see films of your journey to work or wherever. It's just a bit of fun, really - let others see a bit of your surroundings.
It has the blessings of Capmaster, so it can't be a bad idea!![]()
I did mine, and I've decimated frames to keep the size down. Unfortunately, due to high compression and bad resolution and quality from the camera, the image isn't up to much. Also, the culling of the frames has made it very shaky - sorry!
Here's my journey from one home, VideoHelp all the way down to my other home - the 4 South Biology & Biochemistry labs. For those who don't know, I go to the University of Bath.
Presented in CobraVision (where available):

Enjoy,

should be able to do mine tomorrow, just need some batteries for my camera
what's this poster?
and this one? looks like a reservoir dogs one?
-
Cobra,
Nice job. That's quite a walk. I thought it turned out just fine and it seems you decimated just the right number of frames to keep it short but still complete
I like all the green growing stuff all over the campus. I miss that here
I'll have an offering from the Capmaster-cam here tomorrow
I do want to ask you about this though. It's a frame grab from the beginning of your clip:

This is a picture put up for the benifit of the two computer scientists living on our floor:
And this is a cool poster I put up:
I need a daily dose of Pulp Fiction before I go to lectures...
I could make another film, show you around a student residence if you like. It's no trouble - I get free, unlimited hosting from the government!
Capmaster strikes again! He's managed to uncover my affinity for Naked Geek himself... How will I ever make it up??
Cobra -
i saw the CE NT, guessed it was cement, but the pic looked like a washing machine!
ok, so pulp fiction. close enough. just reminded me of my own poster
It says "let's go to work" and you can see my dolby digital sign above it -
Nice! I'd love a nice, high-res VideoHelp logo...

How come you have a much smaller text area than I have , it looks like everything is squashed to the left . I'll show you a comparison.
Here's yours
and mine
You see what I mean
Is it just adaware working too well. -
I wasn't logged in!
I hang my head in shame.....
Cobra -
Oh is that what it is ?
I'm just automatically logged in when I come here , so I don't ever remember seeing the screen like that. -
I can't because I leave my door open, and DarkLord might wander in and do something terrible....

cobra, ask baldrick nicely if you can have a hi-res logo. or maybe he can set up a cafepress shop? vhelp mug anyone? -
Here's my morning commute. These were taken this morning at about 6:00am. These were taken with a digicam and not a camcorder so they're not the best quality. They're 320x240 at 20fps. They have sound too.
Pulling into parking lot: The last 15 seconds or so of the video are extremely washed out because the camera takes an exposure reading at the beginning of the movie and doesn't update it. I had it pointed at a dark area in the car when I started it and consequently it looks like I'm driving on the surface of the sun :P

Thanks to Cobra for combining and hosting my clips
Edit: Thanks also to Rallynavvie for assuming the hosting duties for this and other clips -
You sound nothing like I thought you would.
I see your neighbour drives an Aussie car by the looks of it. Bit disappointed though, I thought we were going to get to see some UFO's and dead aliens at your workplace. -

The silver one on the culdasac, looks like a Pontiac GTO which is just a rebadged and slightly mutilated Holden Monaro.

Ah ok, looks around the same shape as the Commodore/Monaro/GTO.
I don't know really what I expected you to sound like but if I had to pick something specific out I would say that I thought your voice would have less of an accent and more deeper.
In the second video did you refer to the Off Topic whore as the O2 whores and also say a member was Blue Dark or did I mishear you? -
I was wondering that, too.
As for how Capmaster sounds, I wasn't expecting anything really. I find it hard to imagine what people are like when its just text.
That's a nice journey, Capmaster. I might take another film when I get home going from my house to where I used to work (the Old Swan pub). I'll stick the camera to my dashboard so it won't give you a headache to watch it!
That's a couple of weeks away, though...

Cobra has graciously taken it upon himself to combine my AVIs into one file and host it on his school server. Thanks Cobra! I owe you one
Here's the link:
Edit: Thanks to Rallynavvie I now have a second host:

Less of an accent? Do you mean my American accent in general, or the residual Chicago accent? -
no sound and no codecs at work (guessing you used DivX cap?) so it'll have to wait till i'm home. ah well, only 80mins to go.....

I don't think Cobra re-encoded them, just combined them and put them on the server. The file size now is about what the raw AVIs were when I was fooling with them (a little over 12MB). Maybe an issue with your player? It shouldn't need a special codec. -
I performed a direct stream copy for both audio and video in VirtualDub. I didn't re-encode them at all - you'd lose quality.
GSpot says:
...if that helps.

oh right, i didn't try, just automatically assumed you'd used extra compression. i'll see what happens (and hope no-one notices their bandwidth is sucked dry. i got questioned last month why the companies download has about tripled since i've been working here
)
Edit:
just saw the Gspot info, it's M-JPEG (thought so) so is compressed but not as much as DivX. -
