I have an AVI that I captured from VHS using Virtual VCR.
I wish to convert this file to MPG for DVD authoring.
I have done this successfully with the free download of TMPGEnc, but this seems to take quite along time.

A friend has the new TMPGEnc Xpress that he has told me works alot faster. I got him to try a conversion but this version of TMPGEnc wont recognise the vdr file for the frame serve.

Is there anyway I can get this newer version of TMPGEnc to recognise a frame serve?

  2. Xpress isn't any faster, he's yanking your chain. Quality takes time, just set it up before you go to bed and let it encode while you sleep.

I have tried all the ideas at the links. I got the plugins and such and they were avalaible, but still no good. The file is only 80 or so minutes and TMPGEnc plus wants to take about 12 to 13 hours to encode (System is P4 2.8Ghz HT with 1 gig RAM)
The problem I get if I encode on xpress is that the audio length and video length are different by about 1 sec. It is fine at the start but at the end it is all out.
I only have this sometimes when I capture the avi file. It is a pain in the bum.

  4. I am a long time TMPGEnc user and Xpress is slightly faster on my system. I am running a Pentium 4 Prescott with SSE3 so that could be it compared to its Northwood cousin.
