  1. hi everyone.

well it seems im one of those people who has suddenly lost my dv capture via firewire since installing sp2.
theres a lot of stuff on the net about this problem, but some have this problem, others dont.
i have a panasonic nv-gs70 mini dv camcorder, and up till i installed sp2, i could capture my dv using firewire (onboard ieee on my asus a7n8x del mobo)
i have been using mme, and dvio to capture dv to pc, but neither works now.
heres what happens now when i connect camera to pc with new firewire cable.
in all my capture programs, my camera is detected as a panasonic dv camcorder (and windows detects it the same btw)
i can still operate the capture program control panel to play, pause, rewind, f/forward the dv tape in the camera, and the video appears on the cameras lcd screen. i also get the audio playback, there just isnt an image in my capture control panel viewing screen, apart from not getting an image to my pc, everything works ok.
everyone i talk to says that its a problem with sp2, stuffed up the firewire somehow, maybe its the ieee 1394 host controller on my mobo, i dont know, and im about ready to reformat and reinstall xp pro with just sp1 and see if its going again. i tried a new cable, no good and yes my cable is seated perfect to the camera and the pc.
i dont want to use usb to transfer my video, i dont trust it like i do with firewire.

does anyone think this problem sounds familiar, and if so, can u maybe point me in the right direction.

thanks in advance....GLEN (windows detects my camera as a panasonic dv camcorder)

In general, it seems that a fresh windows install with SP2 does not create problems (I went that way and have not had any problems with any of my old applications - but I did completely disable MS new security center control panel and the windows firewall.) If you are going to re-install, I just would try that first. You could even create a new install disk with SP2 included. It's a process called slip-streaming and www.tomshardware.com has an article describing the process.

    Good luck

  4. hi there.
i should have mentioned b4 that i uninstalled sp2 and still had the problem, and it has nothing to do with windows firewall etc, so for me the best option is a fresh install of xp pro with sp2 and see if it works then.

ill try that i guess and see....thanks......GLEN
