  1. Hi,

Is there aprogram I can use to blacken the borders of widescreen DVD files(VOB not mpeg)without loosing any quality?

The borders have noise bars in them that distract while viewing.

Can I add smaller black borders to a 4.3 picture to clear up picture faults on the bottom of the screen.

    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hello,

You need a program called tmpgenc.

In the wizard you will have a choice to use "CLIP FRAME" and this will let you add a black bar to the tops or sides of a film.

If you do it on the main screen and not the wizard
go to settings - advanced and select "clip frame" to do the same.

Now you won't be able to do it straight on the vob. You'll have to go to mpeg tools - demultiplex. There you can save the video as a .m2v file. Then you'll apply the border to the video file and remix the fixed file with the original audio.

You won't really lose quality but anytime you convert/fool with video there is SOME loss. Though since you'll be keeping the video in the same format there should be no change if you keep the settings the same as the original file

    Hello,

No it's not the authoring program you need its the editing program. Just plain tmpgenc. Click on the word tmpgenc and it will take you to the link you need to look at

I know in the version I have (2.5.xxx), the mpeg tools are under the File menu. That said, they won't load a vob file under that extension.

Before you get too carried away, what sort of noise are we talking about ? Are you sure it is on the disk, and not your TV or player ? Is it a 16:9 or 4:3 widescreen disk ?

And finally, what sort of TV is it ?

I have a Loewe 4:3 with 16:9 switching. It has an incredible picture that craps all over any Plasma or LCD I have seen to date. However, when I play 16:9 region 4 DVDs (I'm in Australia) I get a small row of white dots across the top of the adjusted screen. It does not happen with pressed disks from other regions, or disks that I author myself, but it does happen with region 4 backups (even if the region codes are removed). No amount of cropping will fix this.

    .
Its white flickering going across the top of the black border. It does it on the VOS on the computer screen and on the TV when copied up.

Its a widescreen picture but I think it is really 4:3 with a wide screen image??????
