The only alternative is to start the movie and use the bathroom, or get a drink or whatever during the previews. Or watch another channel until they're over. In other words, there's no way they can really ever force people to watch them. Or maybe someone would use some sort of software to remove the previews from their "back-up" versions, not that I can imagine anyone really doing that, of course.....

You know what, that is just pure s***. Ain't no way I am going to sit at MY home and waste my time watching f***** ads on a DVD. I mean, when I buy a DVD to watch, I want to watch the MOVIE, not some stupid ads or commercials. If I wanted to waste my time with commercials, I can just turn on the regular TV for that. My personal DVD collection which I backed up recently I stripped all of the promos and ads so that I can just enjoy what I paid for to watch, the MOVIE. This kind of crap is why people find ways to beat the system, because these stupid studios think they can control everything.
I dont buy DVD's that often as there arent many movies worth my time, but nobody is going to force me to watch lame commercials before the movie, im sorry. Ain't gonna happen.

But if they do this, doesn't that mean that when you go see a movie at the theatre, you'll have to get there early enough to see all the crap ads and previews there too?
Man, if this isn't actually another spoof, and it actually passes, I'll know that the US is too far gone down the tubes. F#*%^ing politicians are wasting my taxes with this crap!

Does this mean that future DVD players will be designed so that the fast forward button will be disabled (and probably also the next button) while commercials are playing or is this feature currently programmable within the dvd specs?
I guess it may be similar to many dvd's that won't let you get the menu until the FBI/Interpol warning and other junk in the first play is done.

Does anyone remember A Clockwork Orange? See any parallels here

I can just see it on the TV show "America's Most Wanted":
"Tonight, police need your help in catching a 26 year-old male suspected of scanning forward past the advertisements on his home DVD player. His last location where he was spotted was in a hotel room in WA...."
"We've had reports from some witnesses that this guy fast forwarded the DVD he had in order to skip the commercial and advertisements, and believe me, we will catch him," said officer MPAA Prick.
"If you have any information about this ad-evading suspect, please feel free to call the toll-free number on your screen. Your call will remain anyomous."

******* morons at the power.
The Land of Free thanks to them has become The Land of Idiocy nonetheless. And no one noticed.

That's the job I want. I want to be the Uber Usher at the movie theater who charges you the extra $3 at the door if you're coming in after the commercials / previews. I will say this though. If Hollywood was smart, they'd put the commercials AFTER the previews but before the movie. :P
Morons.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

besides, how the hell are they going to know if you skip/ff commercials.
I can see it now, theres going to be a massive surge in download of TitleSetBlanker and Vobblanker.

Actually the bill was aimed at DVD makers. It would outlaw them from making technology that would enable consumers to fast forward or skip commercials. Unfortunately an unintended consequence is that the consumer himself may be breaking the law by bypassing the commercials.
Not to worry, lawmakers like John McCain are working to "fix" the bill so you and I won't become law breakers by trying to avoid the commercial content on a DVD. The means to do so will still be illegal however.
Here's a link to the story in the NY Post; http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/34357.htm.It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in.

Backup the movie using DVDShrink and don't include commercials. That or download firmware a DVD player that bypasses this...there are ways around everything.
