  1. Hi all..

When previewing with ulead dvd movie workshop i'm getting the video with a lot of vertical bar sections.. ie the video has a vertical bar edge to it.. kinda hard to describe so heres a pic

you can see the lines on his face, and inthe background, and on his finger.. the video is also very dark for some reason compared to the source mpg.

It also authors the DVD like this, but when viewing the .mpg in WMP or core media its fine !

    anyone any ideas?

also, is there anything else i can use to author DVD's which is as user friendly and configurable as movie workshop?

    cheers

  2. How does the DVD look when you play it on a TV?

I think all that's happening is DVD Movie Workshop is doing a quick/dirty resize for previewing on the computer screen. The easiest way do to this is to throw out evern n'th pixel -- leading to the distortions you're seeing. It also does a quick deinterlace so you don't see the combing effect of interlaced video.

The other possibility is that the distortions are in your source but you just don't notice them when played back at 30 frames per second. MPEG compression leads to macroblocks in high motions scenes -- which look very simliar to what you're seeing. If you see the same distortions on your TV when playing the DVD, using a higher bitrate for the MPEG encoding will help.

  3. it looks the same on the TV after its authored..

the strange thing is i've used procoder and get the same result as when i encode with TMPG, and it seems regardless of bitrate...
i understand it may be in the original source but like i say when previewing the converted mpeg outside of movie workshop its fine.. the lines are def not there.

It seems to be something to do with the way workshop is handling the mpg.. but i have no idea why.
It may be coincidence but it also seemed to start just after i applied a workshop patch to the latest version..
and the other weird thing is that it also darkens the mpg..

    all very odd..

i think i'll try another authoring prog and see what happens..

    cheers
