I may have the opportunity to get a hold of a copy of After Effects v5.0. This is going back about three versions from the current 6.5, so I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this?

yes, 5.5 is a very very good version (still used a lot) , 5 was not as good but ok as far as i can remember ..

I still use 5.5, I like it and it works well for what I need it to do. I'll upgrade eventually but I like 5.5 pretty good.
To me I guess my question would be about price.
Considering AE standard is $699 and AE Pro is $999. If you can land 5.0 cheaper than that, I say go for it.
