    Hi, I'm confused!

I just got Analyze This on DVD. But the disk is double sided and seems to have exactly the same thing on both sides.

I don't get it. Why put the same thing on both sides? I must be missing something!

    Can someone please enlighten me?

Because I'm a pedantic bastard, it if wasn't shot fullscreen, then it isn't fullscreen. The correct term is Pan and Scan, or, if there was honesty in advertising, "Butchered by a studio hack from the director's original vision"

Thanks for the replies, but I'm still a bit confused.

    Side A says it's 4:3/1.33 and side B says it's 16:9/1.85.

When I play side B, it's 4:3 and when Iplay side A it seems to be wide screen, but I think it's just the 4:3 with the top and bottom chopped off, and with slightly more image left and right.

What the f*** is going on?

I was expecting the 16:9 format to have more image left and right, instead of less top and bottom.

Do you think the film was shot in 4:3? I doubt it.

That seems to be the reverse of what you were expecting. Remember, the label is on the side opposite the data. So when you put this disk in your DVD player, if it says 4:3 on the top, the data is on the bottom. Don't expect it to play the format that is written on the the label on the bottom of the disk.

Does this make sense? I know what I mean but am not sure I explained it very well.

Thanks, yes I know what you mean.

What I mean is that they seem to have made the 16:9 ratio by cutting the top and bottom off the 4:3 side.

That's not how you should see "widescreen" on a standard 4:3 TV.

If standard 4:3 TV showed like this:
    • DEFGHI1JKLMNO

      DEFGHI2JKLMNO

      DEFGHI3JKLMNO

      DEFGHI4JKLMNO

16:9 "widescreen" shown as LB on a standard 4:3 TV should look like this:
    • ABCDEFGHI1JKLMNOPQR
      ABCDEFGHI2JKLMNOPQR
      ABCDEFGHI3JKLMNOPQR
      ABCDEFGHI4JKLMNOPQR

So the same # of lines are there, just squeezed down vertically. More, however, is available for viewing on the sides than was previously.

If your setup doesn't do something quite similar to this, either your TV or your DVDplayer settings are F$#*&%d up.
