If you want to delete parts of the movie (extras for example) as well as the menu then you would use re-author. You select the portions to keep and if you select the movie only then you can minimize the amount of compression required. This will help retain as much quality as possible.

in full disc you cannot get rid of the menu's and extra's. in re author you can just keep the bits and pieces you want like ZippyP said

Full disc downsizes the entire disc to fit onto one DVD-R. Reauthor allows you to pick the movie and any extras that you want on the DVD.

After you pick which one you press the Backup button to start the process.

re-author doesn't require you to put in a still image - it allows you to JUST have ONE title if you wish, no still images, no menus or any shit like that. If you do movie only it also allows for the movie to start playing immediately upon insertion, and almost always gets rid of copyright warnings and the like.

You would generally only use re-author mode when you want main movie only, but for all else, just use the full backup part as per normal.
    If in doubt, Google it.
