If I remember correctly........back when I was playing around with CCE, v2.50 seemed to outperform v2.67 on 1-pass encodes. I think @ 3-pass and higher, it was harder to tell them apart.

I found that site about a fortnight back after looking for some CCE tweeks, as opposed to the usual <boring> Doom9 guides (much copied everywhere).

Wether or not they are true comparisons (eg. how come 2.5 uses 20 image priority and 2.64 only 12?) is debateable.

The problem with CCE and many other encoders is that there is (to be blunt)..... TO BLOODY MANY variables to make any serious judgements/comparisons.

Ignoring input resolutions/scaling/scripts/filters/etc and bitrates there is still probably over 20,000 possible permitations..(throw bitrates etc into the mix and it must be in the MULTI millions).

From a software point of view arent point releases (ie 2.5 or 2.64) regarded as MINOR changes in the software (debugging, interfaces, minor softeware tweeks etc) as opposed to partial or full re-writing of whole interger releases? Only way to tell if that site is telling the truth is to do it yourself.

MONZIE - you are right ....

but as for CCE and release numbers -- they don't always make a lot of sense .. versions above 2.5 were all about the same up to 2.69 ... 2.7 is a lot different ..

official cce retails releases also bear this out as they really only had one release between 2.5 and 2.7 , not the 6 different versions you see floating about (but they did have available for download as trial)

Versions after 2.5 use a larger scale for image quality priorty. I think 2.5 is 0-60 and after that its 0-100.

I've tried later versions and still prefer 2.5 personally.
