This one is for those who has the ATI AIW card. I have the AIW 128 AGP version running Windows 98. AMD Athlon 1.0 Ghz, a 20 gig 7200 RPM ATA 100 HD, Direct X 8.0, MMC 7.1. I set up MPeg 2 capture at 6.2 mb/s, 352 X 240, I can usually get about 77 minutes of capture at about 4 gig file size. Then I frame serve using DVD2AVI, then I use tmpgenc to encode to either VCD or SVCD. The result is OK quality, but I get a color line at the top border of the screen.

I have tried to capure in AVI format, but I just don't have enough HD Space, and I tried to capture in mpeg 1 VCD format, but the video quality is not so good.

Another problem I have is that I have Cable hooked up to a VCR, and the VCR is connected to the AIW Card. When I watch TV or VHS Tape or when I am capturing a program, I get these horizontal lines going up the screen. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Has anyone out there experienced with the ATI AIW Card, I want to know how you set up your card to capture in best quality.

  2. Sounds like the problem is either in your cable connection or the drivers you're using. Download DirectX 8.1 and then hop over to Rage Underground and pick up the last version the ATI AIW drivers. NTS- if you can't solve the problem with software, it may be you should bypass the vcr and connect directly to the video card.

I have something like you... I use virtualdub to enable boundaries (video, cropping, enable boundaries, set...)... thats good... u should try divx codec to capture in avi format than convert to mpeg with tmpeg...
