I am using FreeVCR and an All In Wonder 9600 Pro to capture from my VCR. I'm having a few problems, the biggest of which is I can't capture any audio. My VCR has only two outputs on the back. Pardon my ignorance, as I don't know the technical terms, but the video output is yellow, and the audio output is white. i.e. there is no red audio output. I have been able to capture audio with this set-up before, but I don't know why it isn't working any more. I'm truly at a loss and I have to figure this out for a work related project by the end of the day. Any sugggestions/advice would be much appreciated.
The audio is definitely my biggest concern, but I also have a question about the video. The video quality in the preview pane of FreeVCR is much better than what ends up in the captured video file. Why is that? If it looks good in the preview pane, why wouldn't the captured video file be as good a quality?
I've been told that the best way to capture from an All In Wonder card is using the ATI MultiMedia Center software, but I don't see a capture option in that suite of programs. All I have as choices are: DVD, TV, Player, VCD, CD, FM Radio, TV listings and Library. What, if any of those, should I be choosing to try to capture? I'm using version 8.6 of that software.
Please help! I hate to sound desperate but frankly, at this point I am desperate.

As Lordsmurf briefly states you have to hit the TV button on MMC and set up everything. Second make sure the Line Out cable from the AIW is plugged into the Line In of your sound card.
For some reason the Line In on my sound card /Creative Audigy 2 ZS/ is never on so every time I need to capture I have to restart in order to enable it.

I have an older ATIAIW card and to capture with it I go to ATI then TV then Digital VCR then HELP! I hope that you have a long workday to give you time to figure out what what you are doing! My ATIAIW came with a purple adapter that they call a "Dongle"? (input adapter)and another one called an output adapter (You may already know all of this and I ain't the expert that loard smurf is, you may want to visit his site for the best settings setup) Anyhow make sure that you have all of the wireing hooked up right, check to see that the sound is hooked up and check that the sound settings are not muted or too low.
ATI makes some killer products when you get them to work, but the learning curve on the settings and use can be a bitch! And I am sure that the added pressure of a work deadline ain't going to make things any easier!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
oops my bad, ATI then TV then SET UP (which is the little envelope looking button on my version) then DIGITAL VCR then HELP
Check the manual for wireing (I think that the sound needs to be jumpered from your ATI card to the sound card) ( my PC is kind of land locked right now and I cant get to the back of it to see how I have everything knotted up back there)IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
oops sorry, I missed Gregg's reply about the sound.

If so, how does anybody capture anything they've recorded from TV to their hard drive with ATI's software? Or do they all use something else? -
False Macrovision detection, maybe:

Or could be driver install was bad. The "magic" driver was v6168 from ATI. Seems to work almost all the time. Reinstall news ones, any of them until one works.
Try another tape too, just to be sure. Try a off-air tv signal too.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
