  1. I am finding strange problems on certain DVD players. The opening
credits (text on a black background)on my DVD will appear blank, with
just a blank screen. After the opening credits, the video plays
    without a problem.

Then, at the end of the video, I have stills with text at the bottom
of the screen, followed by rolling credits. As soon as the first
still with text appears, the video stops, but audio keeps playing.
Eventually, the rolling credits appear for a few seconds but then also
    stop.

This only happens on some players...on others, it's fine. The video
was captured from a DV camera, and edited with Premiere 6.5. I added
the credits with Premiere also. The final DVD was made with DVD
    Workshop, latest version.

I used TMPGENC to do the encoding. Tried different methods too, all
with same results (Variable Bitrate, 6K Constant Bitrate, 7950
Constant Bitrate) Can anyone suggest a way to correct this problem, or
tell me why it might be happening? Again, on most DVD players there
is no problem, but I do see the problem on others, such as an APEX.
It somehow seems to be related to the text/credits, which is odd.

maybe problem with your burning or media as it could be the begining and end are also begining and end on the disk ..

another thing it could be is that the bit rate is dropping to low - which some dvd players seem to have a problem with ..

  3. I've tested on very short clips which barely take up any room on the DVD, so I am doubting it has anything to do with the media.

Also, I tried both constant bit rate and variable bit rate tests, and the problem occurs with both. So, I'd think it couldn't be too low a bit rate either. Thanks for the suggestions, though.

  4. Following up on this, I encoded the file using Adobe MPEG Encoder with Premiere 6.5, using VBR and same type of settings that I had used in TMPGEnc. This time, the DVD played perfectly on all DVD players that I tried, including the one that did not work previously with the TMPGEnc encoded file.

I'd prefer to use TMPGEnc in the future, but how can I figure out what I need to change to correct the problem? Other than bitrates, what should other settings should I be looking for? I can compare all the settings between TMPGEnc and Adobe MPEG Encoder.

Some of the settings I used in Adobe MPEG Encoder were:
    Variable Bitrate
    Video Bitrate: 6000
    Video Encoder Quality: 39
    I Frames: 15
    P Frames: 3
    Close GOP every: 1 GOPs
    Example: BBIBBPBBPBBPBBP...
Variable bitrate: Max: 6000, Avg: 4200, Min: 2000
    Motion Search: 9
    Do half-pixel search
    Noise sensitivity: 3
    Color Primaries: ITU-R Rec. 624-4 System M
    Transfer Characteristics: ITU-R Rec. 624-4 System M
    Matrix Coefficients: ITU-R Rec. 624-4 System B, G
    Multiplexing: none

The most important ones: MPEG1/MPEG2, PAL/NTSC, Framerate, aspect ratio, resolution, audio (if any). But I think you have checked these already, therefore no idea...
