  1. Hey everybody. This is my first post, so be gentle.

I am trying to convert AVI's to DVD using Nero 6.3.-.- (most recent version). The avi's are successfully converted to DVD format ( I can play them on my computer), but when I try to play them on my stand-alone DVD Player, they turn the DVD players screen black and white ( it stays like this until I insert another disk or turn off the DVD player).

The weird thing is, If I use something like DVDShrink to back-up a DVD, It works just fine, so I know it's not my Burner.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to have color movies ??

B.T.W. - I had some success earlier burning Avi's to DVD, but it all of a sudden does not work anymore.....

    Thanks in advance

    My system specs:

    Athlon XP 2500+
    Gigabyte G8-VAX mobo
    512 Generic Ram
    Western Digital 1200JB
    Geforce 4-ti4400

Sounds like a pal/ntsc problem, if your tv doesn't support pal or ntsc it can be black and white.

what are you making, pal or ntsc? you can change that in nero.

I have a cunning plan, what could get you out of this problem. Open your original AVI in Gspot and see what the framerate is, and it will tell you if it's NTSC or PAL. If it's PAL, you can follow one of the guides on the site to convert it.

  4. Cool... I'll give the ol' G-spot a try ( or is that Gspot ).

So, If I understand, you can only encode ntsc with ntsc and pal with pal ??

Thanks for the lightning fast reply

you can encode whatever you want to whatever you want, but it is advisable to stick to the same format, because it's much easier

One way to test the PAL/NTSC thing would be to play the DVD on your computer. If the problem is your TV, it should play in full color on your PC. You mentioned you've already done this, so it points strongly toward your TV not being able to handle both formats.
    If in doubt, Google it.
