I have just built a new computer to use for video work as my existing computer is used for everything, and will now do everything except video. The old computer works great on all my video requirements and the new one is a slightly higher spec built with the ASUS A7V600-X motherboard, AMD 2400. All went well untill I played a DV codec file from the second hard drive ( was in the old computer ). When asked to play a DV file Windows Media Player is very slow to open then will freeze , play a few frames then freeze etc. I used "AVI CODEC" to check that I had not missed anything and it says it is OK, I then swapped the memory between the two computers, just the same. If I run TASK MANAGER while playing a file the CPU is running between 0 and 98, on the old machine it runs between 0 and 25. All the software is the same on both computers.
    Have I missed something ?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Have you tried another player? WMP has issues. Try VLC Media Player. It uses it's own codecs or another player such as Zoom Player. Also, where did you get the DV video? You could also run it through VirtualDub using the Panasonic DV codec for one. It would give you more info.

Sorry, I should of said that I have indeed tried VLC Media Player, which also has problems. These are the same version players as on the old computer which has no problems playing DV files. Also forgot to say in first post that DMA is used on the hard drives and I am running Windows 2000 (NTFS).

Could be a DirectX problem, you might want to try reinstalling. Only other thing I can think of would be a codec conflict, but you said everything is the same as the old machine.
